Sam Carlson was born and raised in Pottstown, Pennsylvania.  A life-long learner and student, he was fortunate enough to be exposed to all kinds of music growing up.  He began singing as a child in the church choir and curiosity led him to a variety of instruments.   As a teenager, he slowly taught himself guitar and found his voice through song and poetry.  As years have gone by, he has learned from all sorts of players which has lead to stylistic choices that are uniquely his own.  Adjacent to country and bluegrass, Sam Carlson's sound is not quite either.  A student of philosophy and the arts, he writes with intention and thoughtfulness, but also holds the belief that music should get you on your feet.

Whether playing solo or alongside his band of skilled musicians, Sam’s shows are emotionally resonant, crafted to stir the soul and invite listeners into a shared experience. Continuing down the road and bringing his unique blend of tradition and contemporary insight to new audiences, Sam Carlson remains a compelling voice in the American folk tradition, a bridge between past and present, always creating and performing with heart.
